The Rav’s Sefer Torah for the soldiers

Last week, the Rav turned 86.

There was a request made that for his birthday, a new Sefer Torah should be written, dedicated to the soldiers fighting in Gaza.

Shuvu Banim is now fundraising to get this Sefer Torah written ASAP.

No promises at all, no guarantees, nothing like that.

Just emunat tzaddikim that getting this Sefer Torah written ASAP could help to bring a speedy conclusion to this horrible war, that is killing and seriously maiming hundreds, and God forbid a million times, even thousands of precious Jews.

Hamevin yavin.

====

The Sefer Torah is being written in compact style, which is expensive, because it’s going to be dedicated to the Rav’s personal use on a daily basis, and will be carried around by him, himself.

The parchment required is super-expensive, and also the skill of the sofrim who are writing it has to be top notch, as it’s much harder to write a kosher Torah scroll when it’s a small size.

But I believe, 100% personally, it’s going to start changing things around big time.

====

They are just getting the project under way, and they aren’t selling letters yet.

First, they need to get the parchment together.

You can help with this tremendous mitzvah like this:

If you can afford it, consider donating a section of the parchment required, for $5,500 – (20,000 nis).

Go HERE for the link on the Shuvu Banim site to do that.

Here’s the description:

A Sefer Torah is made of pieces of parchment sewn together.

Each parchment is approximately 4 pages.

By dedicating an entire parchment you will become an official partner in the writing of the Torah for the protection of Am Yisrael.

Names inscribed.

====

If you can’t afford to do that – and I get that totally – consider the cheaper option of dedicating a page in the Sefer Torah instead, for 5,000 shekels.

HERE is the link for that, on the RavBerland.com site.

====

Let me just pause to tell you a couple of things.

First, I don’t get a penny from the RavBerland.com site, or Shuvu Banim itself, in any way, shape or form.

And I never have.

I’m not getting any ‘kick back’ in any way, when I encourage you to donate over there.

I’m telling you about it only and solely because I believe in it myself, and because I think it’s the best possible thing you could do with your charity money right now.

ESPECIALLY, if you have people in the army, and / or are worrying and concerned about the people serving in the army, and / or you want this way to end as sweetly and quickly as possible.

====

The second thing to tell you is that literally the week before Simchat Torah, the donation page on the RavBerland.com site suddenly stopped working.

I had a few emails from people telling me they couldn’t donate on the site, and I know from my own ‘subscription’ that I’m doing there that in October and then again in December, the site ‘went down’ and wouldn’t process any payments from donors.

It’s all been fixed now, but you should really ponder why the authorities singled out just the Rav and Shuvu Banim, to make it ‘illegal’ for the Rav to accept any charity payments directly, and why that process begin exactly a week before ‘Covid 19’ started up here.

====

Then, compare and contrast with all the ‘sponsored ads’ going up in their millions on government propaganda sites like YWN, and why no-one seems to give a hoot about all the ‘yeshuot’ and ‘miracles’ and ‘salvations’ those people are promising.

And then, ask yourself where the ‘billion dollars’ raised in the States actually went.

In fact – do me a favor, and maybe contact the JDC and the Jewish Fed directly, and ask them where did all that money actually go?! Give some concrete amounts, some concrete info, for where that billion dollars + of charidee that flowed into your bank accounts actually went, to help the soldiers and refugees in Eretz Yisrael!!

And if you do that, then please let me know what they tell you.

====

The last thing to say, is that the amounts are being paid to a US charity, and you will get a US tax receipt.

Everything is totally above-board, kosher – and you are not paying for anyone to get a six-figure salary, a BMW ‘on the business’, or a brand new house in Bnei Brak with no mortgage….

(Can you say the same for the rest of the charidee organisations you probably donate to without a second thought?)

====

OK, just to remind you:

20,000 ($5,500) pays for a section of Torah parchment. Go HERE to pick that option, become a partner in this very important mitzvah – and get your names inscribed in the Rav’s personal Torah scroll.

5,000 pays for a page. Go HERE for that option.

And may we just hear good news.

Quickly.

====

PS: BH, we were able to make a donation yesterday morning.

Two hours later, I was at my Pilates class, and I thought I overheard one woman telling someone else that her 40 year old son had just been called up to the reserves with a Tav 8 (mandatory) note.

And they were both horrified by the implications of this, because the reserves is meant to be ‘over’ by age 35.

And at the beginning of the war, only 200,000 people actually got a Tav 8, but because of all the propaganda, another 200,000 ‘volunteered’ without being required to.

(And  have now been stuck away from their homes and families for 3+ months, whilst facing the ongoing risk of being killed outright or having their legs blown off. And let’s be clear: even the guys that come out of this 100% ‘ok’ physically are going to be dealing with serious amounts of PTSD, anger issues and other emotional challenges for a VERY long time….)

====

Yesterday night, my daughter and her new husband were at home.

He told me he also got a ‘Tav 8’ note yesterday AM (he’s not a combat soldier, BH) – but strangely, it got ‘rescinded’ by the afternoon, and so far he is not being called up.

You believe whatever you want to believe.

I feel in my heart that the Rav’s Sefer Torah is ALREADY having an effect.

Even though it won’t be fully completed until Pesach 5784.

Which is going to be big this year, by all accounts.

Think for yourself.

    Devarim 17:
    18 And it will be, when he sits upon his royal throne, that he shall write for himself two copies of this Torah on a scroll from [that Torah which is] before the Levitic kohanim.
    19 *And it shall be with him*, and he shall read it all the days of his life …….

    Just like his father Dovid Hamelech, who was anointed many years before he sat on the throne, Moshiach will begin “early”.

    Our yishuv lost a reserve soldier this past week in Gaza – 24 weeks. He also wasn’t officially called up and was in the US at the time, he came back and found a unit that needed him. His family has been our neighbors for 18 years. We also donated for the sefer Torah, whatever bit helps. People shouldn’t be discouraged by the big numbers being requested. They should donate whatever they can and they will still get the zchut of contributing to it.

      Yes, totally agree.

      I’m so sorry for each of of these precious souls being killed. And in some ways, even more sorry for the hundreds being seriously wounded.

      ‘War’ is so glorified.

      But the aftermath of war for everyone who experiences it, on some level, is literally hell.

      Even the ones that come through totally safe and sound – it changes them fundamentally.

      Ta for the link Nahman – this is where you can donate any amount you want, then specify it’s for the torah scroll.

      I know there is a different Shuvu Banim charity that gives out receipts for donations in Israel.

      Let me see if I can get you details – I’ll email them to the address you put on this comment.
