Update on the Rav’s Torah, and another way to help the Kollel Hatzot

I just got an update on the Rav’s Torah.

They have multiple scribes working on it full time, but it’s looking like it is NOT going to be ready for the Rav’s birthday, Tevet 23rd, January 23rd, 2025.

But a little later.

I’m really hoping not too much later, as the Rav clearly said when this Torah was ready, the war would stop.

Also, they still need to pay for the last two parchments required, which is 40,000 nis.

Here is how you can do that:

TO DONATE TO GET THE RAV’S SEFER TORAH COMPLETED:

20,000 ($5,500) pays for a section of Torah parchment – and get your names inscribed in the Rav’s personal Torah scroll.

5,000 pays for a page.

But all donations are gratefully recieved.

So that’s the first way you could give some tzedeka to start lifting this ‘heaviness’ that you can just feel all over the place, at the moment.

A second way that maybe will appeal to other people, especially people who don’t feel comfortable about ‘openly’ supporting charities or projects that are clearly labelled as ‘Shuvu Banim’ is this.

Someone got in touch from an organisation that distributes food for Shabbat, within Jerusalem.

They are a recently new charity on the scene. I know one of the people who are helping to run it personally, and they told me that if people want to ‘sponsor’ a family from the Rav’s Hatzot Kollel to get a crucial, if modest, bit of help with buying food for Shabbat, they are happy to act as the ‘go between’.

Here is their website:

https://reimorg.com/

It has the background, what they do, the food baskets they distribute in Jerusalem.

This is a properly-organised charity with everything above-board, volunteer-run, with all the money raised going straight to the projects to give food baskets to needy families in Jerusalem.

So now, I got the names of the 10 families who are part of the Rav’s Kollel Hatzot in the Old City.

Some of them have VERY big families.

And the agreement made with REIM is that if I can help round up 10 people who will agree to pay 480 nis every month to ‘sponsor’ one of these families, they will start delivering the baskets to each member of the Rav’s Kollel Chatzot.

HERE is the donation page for REIM:

You can donate any amount you want, but MAKE SURE TO SPECIFY IT’S FOR THE FAMILIES OF THE KOLLEL HATZOT IN THE OLD CITY.

If you are ‘old school’ and just want to make a bank transfer, or standing order, here are REIM’s bank details:

Name: AMUTAT REIM

Bank: LEUMI

Branch: 912

Acc. No: 394300/68

I know money is tight for most people right now, us included.

But I have been feeling so much ‘din’ in air the last few days, it really made me think of the dictum that ‘charity saves from death’.

So yesterday, I gave 500 nis to someone to buy some groceries, as the mother had post-partum depression really badly, and couldn’t work for a few months.

And today, I donated another 2,000 nis to Shuvu Banim.

I am not a millionaire, at all.

But giving charity is very, very important to me, and Baruch Hashem, I am not one of those people who look for a million excuses ‘why not to give’.

Giving to Shuvu Banim, is literally the highest form of charity.

It’s a massive zchut to be able to do it, as one of the commentators here mentioned.

And not everyone is given it.

May we just hear good news.

    Yosef from the Galil says:

In yesterday’s weekly shiur, Rabbi Y Berg said that Rav Berland says that the war will continue at least another year. This would be unconnected to the completion of the Sefer Torah.
