For all the ladies who put so much effort into keeping up the house

Washing floors is quite the drag.

So is washing the dishes.

And washing the clothes.

And making the beds.

And picking stuff up, all the time.

Sometimes, it’s so easy to think what am I even doing all this for?!

So much effort goes into just keeping the house liveable, and no-one even notices, really, how much time and effort it takes.

If you feel like that, at least sometimes, then this short and sweet ‘words from the Rav’ is just for you.

Enjoy!

Excerpt of a shiur given during Malaveh Malka, Parshat Yitro 5785 (February 15th, 2025)

All the girls should go home, turn the chairs over [on to the table] and clean the rooms, each room with a bucket of water, or buckets of water.

A house – this is the Mishkan.

It’s like the Beit HaMikdash (Temple).

Mishkan is the acronym for Mita (bed), SHulchan (table), Kisei (chair) Nora (light).

Translated from Shivivei Or, 397.

Always good to read the Rav’s holy words.

Back then I remember reading some shiurim posted here that the Rav refers to the Stella Maris Monastery in Haifa, and it was only today that I understood. I came across some news from 2023 about some Shuvu Banim worshipers going to the monastery to pray at Elisha’s Tomb, which according to tradition is buried there. After a while, the Arab Christians began to consider it a provocation and an attempt to ‘Judaize’ the place, so they came into conflict. Did you hear about that?
