Here’s the next installment of Rabbenu’s tale of the ‘Burgher and the Pauper’.

Watch that here:

==

My friend told me she was inspired to read the actual tale itself on Rosh Hashana, and that it gave her a lot of chizzuk to understand that life is inevitably full of ups and downs.

The yetzer, the ‘imagination’, likes to tell us all that real life is picture perfect, and that if it isn’t, there must be something seriously wrong with us.

How many people waste so much time and energy, chasing after stuff that just isn’t real, just isn’t realistic, just isn’t how things are meant to be – at all! – because of this dimayon idea that says life is meant to be perfect?

==

On that same line, take a look at this video from Tommy John, talking about aging:

==

It’s so strange, at least to me, how much what this guy says, with a few unfortunate expletives thrown in, accords so closely to how Rabbenu talks about ‘health’ and ‘aging’.

Rabbenu tells us repeatedly:

It’s forbidden to be old!!!

But, what does that actually mean, tachlis, in practise?

Listen to Tommy John (you can speed him up to 1.75 and it still sounds fine…) – and then start to form your own idea, of what perhaps Rabbenu is actually talking about.

It’s very powerful stuff.

At least, for me.

==

The Rav is back from Uman, BH, the prayers on Ido HaNavi are starting again, hopefully tonight.

And otherwise, Hashem is giving each one of us an invitation right now, to step out of the paradigm that limits us – exactly as the Burgher’s Son is doing in this episode, above, giving away all his power and secrets and ‘signs’ to others, because he doesn’t believe he can really fulfill his true destiny in the world, and marry the Princess.

But, you and me – we know he can. And in the end, he really does.

==

Guess what?

God knows that about each one of us, too.

But until we understand that ourselves, we can spend an awfully long time chasing our tails, giving away our power, and feeling sorry for ourselves – instead of taking responsibility for the bad middot and lack of emuna that keep us trapped, small and miserable, and prevent us from being the people, the Jews, God created us to be.

==

As always, lots to think about.

And thanks, Alizah, for continuing to nudge me along the path to getting the cartoon done.

Piece by slow piece.

You already know that I had 2 kids and 3 grandkids under 1 1/2 by me for Rosh, while the men went to Uman.

Baruch Hashem, ‘official estimates’ reckon that at least 65k got to Uman, but I always add 20,000 onto the ‘official estimates’, which means this year was the biggest Rosh Hashana, ever, by Rabbenu.

Which is incredible, when you really understand a) just how expensive and b) just how difficult, logistically, all the travel is because of the never-ending war in the Ukraine.

==

One of my SILs went via Italy, another went via Poland, and my husband turned up in Bulgaria…

It’s at least six days of travel – and often, literally 24 hours + of travel in and out. Massive, massive mesirut nefesh from Am Yisrael, and it really does sweeten the judgements for all of us, whether we know it or not.

==

In one of his comments from previous years, the Rav said this:

“A person comes to Uman, or even those who didn’t merit [to go], but they are bound to Uman, and thinking about the kibbutz (gathering) in Uman… The Rebbe already revealed that “I already bring everyone across on Erev Rosh Hashana, [to be sealed in the book of life], already on Erev Rosh Hashana, the moment that someone mitkashrim (binds themselves) to me, the moment that they come into me, in the ‘Heichal HaYechida’.”[1]

==

By Zchor Brit, Rabbenu has taken his peeps ‘across’ to the best possible judgement they could expect on Rosh Hashana.

But let’s be clear, that this deal doesn’t come ‘for free’, and a huge amount of effort and mesirut nefesh and ‘suffering’ can and does happen on the trip to and from Uman, in order to scrub off the harsh dinim, and give the person a ‘vessel’ to catch all the blessings of the coming year.

Every step towards the True Tzaddik makes another angel, and adds to the spiritual ‘vessel’.

==

So, that’s for all the guys who travelled.

And what about the women and families they leave behind?

Well, there is usually also a huge amount of pre-Rosh Hashana ‘scrubbing’ going on back home, too.

I already told you about the snot and diarrhea, which BH cleared up, mostly, after the first day. So then, I was just left with 3 babies of varying ages, including a newborn that wasn’t letting anyone sleep, and that would have been plenty to handle, all by itself.

But then…. We had a ‘bed bugs’ issue on Erev Rosh Hashana. This is how that played out:

==

Three weeks ago, one of my kids finally realised that her house had become infested with bed bugs.

It’s a long story where they came from, let’s just say relatives of relatives, who were in deep, deep denial that anything was going on by them for months and months, which enabled the critters to spread to other households, before my daughter understood what was happening.

To her credit, the minute she figured it out, she called an exterminator, and two weeks before Rosh, she had to put every scrap of clothing, bedding and towels into sealed bin bags and leave them outside in the sun for two days, chuck out mattresses etc, and vacate her apartment for three days (it’s a minimum 24 hours, but with a crawling baby, she wasn’t taking any chances) while the guy ‘zapped them’.

Of course, we all got paranoid in the meantime that somehow, they’d got to us, too.

==

I washed all the bedding and towels on 60 degrees (less doesn’t kill the eggs), checked the mattresses super thoroughly, and reassured myself that with God’s help, we’d been spared the scourge.

Just, it plays on your peace of mind, once you know that ‘bed bugs’ have invaded the home of someone in your inner circle, so I wasn’t 100% calm.

==

Fast-forward to erev Rosh Hashana, and the kid who had bed bugs two weeks ago had a massive paranoid fit, that she’d somehow brought them to me after all.

Apparently, this is very common with people who have been through all this, it’s a traumatic response, where every speck of dirt becomes a potential critter-in-waiting.

So of course – of course! – that paranoid fit had to wax on the morning of Erev Rosh Hashana, when I came back from buying the challahs to see both my daughters wearing the same weird face.

Sit down, Ima, we have a crisis on our hands…

==

I sat, as one kid told me she’d found ‘3 eggs’ on her mattress, while the other one told me she’d checked where to go for Chag, and there were cheap hotels in Eilat….

==

God helped me.

That, and the donation I’d just made to help feed the Shuvu avreichim in Uman. And the hour I’d just spent at Shimon HaTzaddik doing vidui, and really understanding just how many sins I really still struggle with.

It can’t be bad, however this is going to end… That’s what I kept telling myself.

==

As the hysteria mounted, I told my kid to call in an exterminator immediately, to assess if there really was a problem, and how bad it might be, so we could figure out next moves.

It was 10am, at this point.

The very nice guy showed up half an hour later, checked every bed and mattress super thoroughly, even checked my hysterical daughter’s car – then gave us the verdict:

I am 90% sure you have no bed bugs, he said.

(The extra 10% was to save face for my daughter, who had been describing luridly how she’d seen ‘eggs with legs’ etc.)

It’s very common after people have bed bugs that they get traumatised by it, he let us know, on the way out.

==

Turns out, we do have a problem with tiny, biting fire ants, but compared to bed bugs, no-one cared at that point.

==

At this point, it was midday.

There was a bunch of cooking left to do.

But I was totally wiped-out from all that, and the lack of sleep, and the ongoing work of just keeping up with 3 small kids, including the one at the stage of climbing everything and shoving everything he can in his mouth…

I decided, I am accepting reality this year, and making the priority my kids and grandkids, and not totally cracking up over Chag.

==

I bought some dips and a cake.

We ate on paper. (There was still more than enough washing up, don’t worry).

I swept the floor every few hours, to try to keep the massive amount of food and ‘yuck’ down, I even had to do some sponga second day chag, as I was still fighting the battle against the biting red ants.

Every hour in the night, some other kid was awake and crying – and of course, I heard it all.

==

Second day chag, we all went to shul for shofar blowing.

It was a total bust. After the first few blasts, the young guy blowing couldn’t get his shofar to make a noise. Then, we had a few minutes of what sounded like heaving, weeping noises. It was awful. Both my kids started crying.

Me?

I was relying on Rabbenu, and Uman, Rosh Hashana, so I actually felt maybe it was useful, that people left shul feeling far more contrition and apprehension than they came with, after that awful shofar blowing.

==

We did the simanim both nights. We did tashlich. I got the day wrong, for when and how to do havdalah, I didn’t even know what time the chag came out, so we kept an extra 15 minutes past when it went really dark, just in case.

Was it a ‘good’ Rosh Hashana?

Only God knows.

==

What I can tell you, is that part way through, when I was making one nursing mother a cup of tea, while the other one was feeding her kid, that story about the ‘long spoons’ popped into my head.

Long story short, there’s a guy who is offered to see ‘heaven’ and offered to see ‘hell’.

They take him to hell first, and the tables are filled with a sumptuous feast – but no-one can eat anything, as they all have spoons that are two feet long, which means they can’t spoon the food into their mouths.

Then, the guy goes to ‘heaven’ – and is surprised to see the exact same tables, same feast, same long-handled spoons.

But there in heaven, everyone was feeding each other, instead of just thinking about themselves, so they were as happy as could be.

==

Post-chag, I had a lot of soul-searching going on, about how I want my life to change, and how I need to take responsibility for that.

I am totally sick of renting. I am totally sick of dealing with greedy people trying to sell their houses for 58 million-gazillion, but forgetting to tell you small details like half the property is built on the neighbour’s land…

I am totally sick of putting the emphasis on things that actually don’t matter, at least to me.

I am sick of ‘keeping up appearances’, fake friendships and disappointing relationships that just stay in superficial mode, because most people would rather keep their emotions and true feelings trapped behind a screen, instead of owning them, and taking responsibility for the mess their life is in.

I don’t know how this all looks, yet, in practise, but that’s where I want to be headed this year, with God’s help.

==

So now, my thoughts on AI.

I think that AI IS really ‘clever’, efficient at many things, has certain abilities way beyond what most people can do, in some areas.

Is it being created as a tool for mass-surveillance and intelligence gathering? Of course! Do the Evils have a whole bunch of bad plans for how to use it? Of course!

Is it going to ‘take over the world’? Maybe. Can it replace humans? In some ways – in the crappy, robotic, soul-deadening jobs that no human should really be wasting their time in, anyway.

Am I ‘scared’ of AI? No – not at all.

Here’s why.

==

AI is a machine-based intelligence.

Even if it gets really, really ‘clever’, even if it IS channelling demonic entities etc, as it really might be doing – bottom line, those ‘demonic entities’ also serve Hashem.

Bottom line, if you know anything about anything, spiritually, you also know that demonic entities inevitably turn on the people who are serving them.

It’s like that yetzer that gets you to speak lashon hara, and then disappears upstairs to bring a claim against you in the heavenly court, for doing so.

==

Small people like you and me – what secrets do we really have to hide, honestly?

I have no offshore bank accounts in Panama or the Bahamas. I don’t engage in criminal enterprises on an international scale. I try to respect the sanctity and holiness of the human being, in all the big and small ways God presents me with.

If AI wants to rat on me, that I asked for some healthy eating ideas – so be it.

==

But you know who really stands to lose everything, if AI goes ‘rogue’ and starts turning against its creators?

That would be the Evils.

The same Evils, who have so many secrets, so much yucky, horrible stuff to hide, so much ‘evil’ that they have been engaged in, behind the scenes, for decades, centuries – and even, millennia.

When God decides, I am now convinced that AI will be the route that brings all that ‘truth’ out into the light of day.

Jeffrey Epstein is just the very tip of that massive iceberg.

==

So, don’t use AI like a shrink, don’t feed it any information that you don’t want the dark web to have, and for sure, don’t discuss ‘spiritual issues’ with it, as that is a shortcut to channelling demonic entities.

But otherwise, relax, connect everything back to God – and wait for the real fireworks to begin, hopefully, some time very soon.

==

This ended up being a super-long post.

I probably won’t be writing much here now, as I also decided to get on with ‘Conversations 4’. If anyone wants to help pay for printing that, when it’s ready, be in touch.

But bottom line: for the people connected to Rabbenu in any small way, I think it’s probably going to be a much better year than it perhaps currently seems.

All the difficulties are just ‘scrubbing away’ the sins and gezeirot.

For people like me, clearly, there is still a lot of scrubbing required… But this doesn’t continue like this forever.

And dawn is surely about to break.

==

FOOTNOTE:

[1] Excerpted from Shivivei Or, #472a.

Everybody in my household went to Uman, BH.

The husband, even the sons-in-law,even the son-in-law who has never been before, he went with a group of ‘secular’ guys from his yishuv who have also never been before. It’s simply amazing what’s going on in Israel.

So they are all there – and my house is full of my kids and their kids.

3 little boys under the age of 1 1/2.

2 with diarrhea.

3 with snot.

2 mums who when they arrived were cracking up, from lack of sleep and ‘stress’. Not eating, not sleeping.

==

And me?

I got told by my nice Chinese Med lady that I ‘burned out’ and need to take it easy, really easy. Put myself first. Have time to relax and eat well and exercise…

I had hugely conflicting emotions for a few days before ‘the gathering’ arrived in my house.

How am I going to manage?

How am I going to have ‘me’ time and ‘nurturing’ in the middle of all this?

I haven’t slept through the night for like, at least six months, everything has been such a balagan.

==

Then, two things happened:

Thing one, was I came across this guy called Tommy John III.

Here’s one of his videos:

==

Here’s a snippet from underneath the video, above:

Your body only heals. No exceptions.

All symptoms are symptoms of healing, all collections of symptoms of healing man calls disease are healing responses, and all injuries are to the strongest areas of your body creating the least amount of damage for you to learn and grow.

To what degree is dependent on your obedience to the rules of your body, your creativity within those rules called your life and your consistency within the rules and poetry. You are both parent and child. That’s what’s tough.

Nobody is teaching you how to be both now in any form of medicine. Rather just fixing you, protecting you, paving roads for you to never have to have any idea how to drive when it’s not ideal conditions.

==

Let’s call it, focussed ‘body emuna’.

It’s really the ‘body’ aspect of Rebbe Nachman’s teachings.

At least, that’s how I’m relating to it.

God sometimes hides wisdom in such strange places, including tattooed dudes who used to be pro sportsmen, then chiropractors – and now, drive all over the US telling people what ‘teshuva’ they really need to make, to get well.

==

Bottom line: it hit me like a ton of bricks.

Health is totally, utterly, a spiritual conversation, a teshuva process, a prompt to fix something profound.

==

The second thing, is I realised just how much one of my kids actually really needs my help, at the moment.

She needs some real nurturing, some real loving, some real mesirut nefesh, to start to ping back from a very challenging few months.

==

Long story short:

I realised, I WANT to be there for my kids and my grandkids, and I don’t want to be whingeing about teeth, lack of sleep, funny eyes, none of that.

I went, I did a tiny bit of hitbodedut about a bunch of things, and I realised, a lot of my ‘symptoms’ are coming from feeling I have no choice.

Once I understood that, and I understood that I CAN choose, mamash, to do or not do – things are turning around.

==

BH, my house looks like a bomb hit it.

Small guys take a lot of energy… But I am loving seeing them, having them around, being part of their live.

Sure, my tops are covered in snot and I don’t know what else – but it’s life, isn’t it?

Thank God, let me be a grannie covered in snot who is really part of life with my kids and their families, and not a precious ‘grandmother’ who is more worried about their furnishings and appearance than getting on the floor with the kids.

==

Tov.

Take that wherever you personally want to.

But, I slept through the night properly for the first time in months yesterday, having got up at 4am to take my folks to the airport for Uman, and then spent the whole day with kids and grandkids, doing kindnesses that I was CHOOSING to do, and that made me feel good and happy.

==

Yesterday night, I got a call from my friend at the Kollel Chatzot in the Old City.

The Rosh Kollel also runs the Shuvu Banim ‘welcome place’ in Uman, that provides heavily subsidised food and bedding, because most of the core Shuvu are real avreichim, and just getting the money for the tickets to go is a big struggle for them, never mind food and board.

This year, as the Rav is there, even more people came – and the ‘welcome place’ is really struggling to accommodate them.

It takes a ton of money to put food on the table for approaching a week, for 300 people – even if that food is simple.

Can you write something, to see if anyone is willing to help?

==

So, I am.

Because let’s be honest, you will not get a better bang for your charity buck, than helping to feed a bunch of Shuvu avreichim in Uman, for Rosh Hashana.

The zchut is simply stratospheric, it ticks every box you can think of.

There is no fancy link, as they need the money today, to go and get more food etc for the chag, and fancy links and payment systems take a few days to process.

So, bank transfer, with no charitable status attached, is the way this can be done.

Mamash, mesirut nefesh for the giver, and the highest form of tzedekah, truly lishma.

I wonder, really, how many people are even ‘there’ any more?

Even the people who pride themselves on being big givers.

==

DETAILS:

MEIR SAADEH

BANK: DOAR [POST OFFICE BANK]

SNIF: 1

ACCOUNT: 24446715

==

Only give, if you are really CHOOSING to do that.

And then, it will be such a bracha, in so many ways.

May Hashem bless us all with a healthy, happy, holy Rosh Hashana 5787.

Rabbenu tells the story of the ‘Horse in the Pump’.

I’ll stick the whole thing below this post, from HERE.

Long story short, it’s a story of how people delude themselves, and let greed and ‘imagination’ totally take them off the right path in life, leaving them chasing after ‘riches’ and ‘success’ that never comes.

Because, it’s just not real.

==

So, there’s a guy who is gifted a ‘horse’ by demons called letzim – which he doesn’t believe in.

This is such a fine looking horse, that he takes it to market the next day, and gets offered a good amount for it.

Wow! If they are happy to pay that much for it, it must be worth double!!!

So, he doesn’t sell it, and the price goes up.

He takes that fine horse to a different market, and the same thing happens again, this time at the new price.

Wow! If they are happy to pay that much for it, it must be worth double!!!

So, he doesn’t sell it, and the price goes up.

==

This continues for a while, until finally, only the king himself can afford the price of the horse.

And the king himself really does offer to pay that incredible price… but the stupid man repeats his same pattern:

Wow! If the king is happy to pay that much for it, it must be worth double!!!

==

At this point, the ‘horse’ runs away, and disappears up the spout of a water pump.

The guy starts crying, runs after it, and every now and then, the horse sticks its head out of the water pump – and he tries to recapture it, but can’t.

Read the whole story below.

The bottom line is, that guy spends his whole life running after an illusion, a chimera – and can’t detach from it even after it’s disappeared up the water pump and shown itself to be totally ‘unreal’.

My friends, this is the real estate market.

==

Just like where you live, too, Israel is currently filled with overpriced homes that no-one can afford to buy, but where the price doesn’t drop because ‘it’s worth at least double’.

Everyone is just sitting there, sure as sure can be, that their property is going to double again in another year, or 2 years, or 10 years – so why would I sell it now, for less than it’s really worth?!

The newsflash is, A PROPERTY IS ONLY REALLY WORTH WHAT SOMEONE ACTUALLY BUYS IT FOR.

That shouldn’t be a chiddush, but in our crazy world, it is.

==

A few months ago, I met someone I hadn’t seen for 12 years, from the old ‘hood.

She used to have one of the biggest, fanciest houses in that hood.

It’s worth, like, 58 million gazillion, or something.

Trouble was – she ended up getting a divorce. And no-one could afford to buy the 58 million gazillion house, so she and her ex had to split the property, and she lives upstairs, with her new husband, while he lives downstairs, with his new wife.

This honestly sounds like a bizarre form of gehinnom to me, but what do I know.

==

I know someone else, who got stuck with their ‘luxury property’ in chul, trying to sell it for years, convinced that it was really worth double.

In the meantime, the mortgage payments was killing them, they’d moved and bought somewhere else, already, and the only thing that got them out of a looming foreclosure issue was paying a pidyon to the Rav.

Even then, they had to accept an offer that was not fantastic, in their eyes, but good enough to stop them going bankrupt…

==

So many people are stuck, mouldering away, in properties they can’t sell, because like the guy in the story, any offer they get just doesn’t seem to be ‘enough’.

And it’s having such a bad ‘trickle down’ effect, in so many ways.

To give just one example: old, lonely people rolling around massive villot with rooms they never go in, whilst families with 8 kids are stuck in 3 room apartments, (if they are lucky…) because real estate is just so darned expensive.

==

As always, Rabbenu called it precisely.

Your house is the horse is the pump.

And the only way to get out of the problem, is to stop deluding yourself that it’s worth 58 million gazillion, and to sell it for whatever someone is really prepared to pay for it.

And then, move on joyfully with your life.

==

[The Pump]

Regarding the discussion which [some of Rebbe Nachman’s chassidim] were having about someone who was then in one of the large non-Jewish cities and tarried there a long time because each time he imagined that now he would succeed: and so it was each time, until he was delayed there a long time. And he [the Rebbe] said that that is the way it goes when one comes to such places, that each time it seems to him, “Now I will accomplish, now I will accomplish,” etc., etc. And he told this story:

There was one man who did not believe what the world says, that there are leitzim/tricksters from the Sitra Achra/ Other Side that come sometimes to mislead people, as has happened several times; he did not believe this. One night, a leitz came to him and called him to go outside. He went out and the leitz showed him that he had a beautiful horse to sell. He looked and indeed it was a very beautiful horse, so he asked him, “How much do you want?” Answered the leitz, “Four adumim/rubles.” He saw that it was easily worth eight rubles, for it was a choice, fine horse. So he bought the horse from him for four rubles and he considered it a great find. The next day, he took the horse out to sell, and people stepped up to purchase and wanted to give him some amount. He said, “Probably, if they are willing to give me so much, it must be worth double!” So he was not satisfied and he took the horse onward, and they wanted to give him twice his desire. He said, “It is probably worth more than double this amount.” So he brought the horse onward, until the price of the horse reached into the thousands. However, he was not satisfied with any of them to sell it, for whatever they wanted to give him, he said, “It is probably worth twice as much.” Eventually, there was no one who could buy it except the king.

So he brought it to the king, and the king wanted to give him an astounding amount, for the horse was exceedingly pleasing to everyone. However, he was not willing with the king either, for he said, “It is probably worth more.” Thus, even the king was unable to buy the horse. So he went from the king with the horse to water it. There was a plomf/pump there from which people take water. The horse jumped into the pump, disappeared and was no more. (That is, it appeared to him as such, for the entire incident of the horse was made up by the leitz). He yelled out loud over this, and people gathered around in response to his screaming and asked him, “Why are you screaming?” He replied that his horse had jumped into the pump. And they beat him [with] injurious blows, for he appeared insane since the opening of the pump is very narrow, and how can a horse jump into it? He saw that they were beating him and that he appeared insane, and he wanted to go from there. As he wanted to leave, the horse began to stick its head out of the pump. So he began to scream again, “Aha, aha (look, look)!” since it appeared to him that his horse was there. The people gathered around and beat him again, since he was insane, as mentioned. Again he decided to leave; and as soon as he wanted to go, the horse again stuck its head out of the pump. He began shouting again as before and the people gathered upon him again and beat him.

Thus the Sitra Achra deceives a man each time with nothingness; complete lies having no substance. And he is incited by it, pursues it, and each time it appears to him that he will profit more and that he will fill his craving more. So he runs after it many times, and suddenly all his desires vanish, get away and go away from him — as has happened many times, that the cravings go away a little, and when the man wants to detach from them, then they come back and stick out their heads and he goes back to chasing them. And so it continues, that as soon as they stick out their heads, he goes back to chasing them. (And he explained the matter no further. Understand this well.)

Shiur from the Rav in Uman, Elul 18th, 5786 (31st August, 2026)

To thank and praise for the enormous miracle, that we managed to chop off the octopus’ tentacles. It has a million tentacles, but the Rebbe chopped off all the tentacles of the octopus, and the Rav entered, after five years that the Rav wasn’t in Uman.

Because they shut the Tziyun HaKodesh in the Rav’s face – all different types of cholkim (opposers), and all different sorts of wicked people.

But now, the Rebbe beat all of them!

It’s impossible to prevent anyone from coming to the Rebbe! [Rebbe Nachman of Breslov]

==

“The mountains skipped like rams”.[1]

Simply, the mountains joined together, like it’s written in Rashi, [on Parshat] Chukat, that the mountains joined together, and became a ‘cascade of rivers’. That it became a river of blood, a river of blood, of unfortunate people, free of sin, tzaddik olam.

And everything turned into a river of blood, because they didn’t want [the Jews] to enter Eretz Yisrael,[2] they didn’t want them to enter Eretz Yisrael. It became a river of blood, and then the mountains joined together… There was a miracle.

==

“Et ha-nahalim Arnon, eshed ha-nahal…”[3]

Rivers of blood, that all the mountains joined together – this was a greater miracle than the splitting of the sea. At the splitting of the sea, the sea opened up, but remained the same sea.

Here, the mountains moved! They skipped, like a chatan greeting his kallah, like a maidservant greeting her mistress. The mountains jumped! They skipped like rams, they jumped to greet Am Yisrael, when it was entering the Land.

==

Now, [they] are coming to the Tziyun, the mountains are joining together, all the mountains are skipping…

Everyone is going to return in teshuva. Now, they will start ‘skipping’, everyone who comes to Uman, they are going to start dancing now.

And those who are in the Aretz, they will start dancing now. “Zachreinu le-chaim, Melech chafetz ba-chaim”.[4]

All the zemirot, it’s possible to start singing now, already… We’ll recite it after ma’ariv, ma’ariv we will pray together, immediately after ma’ariv, we will recite ‘Nishmat’ together, ‘Nishmat’, and also, Hallel HaGadol, without the blessing. We will say Hallel HaGadol, and we will also say the hallel of Rosh Chodesh, without a blessing.

==

“Odecha ki anitani v’tihi li l’yeshuah”.[5]

“The stone that was rejected by the builders became the capstone”. “The stone that was rejected by the builders became the capstone”. “Me’et Hashem haytah zot, hi nifla’ah b’eineinu”.[6] It’s wondrous.

It’s impossible to understand this wonder, we need to dance for 24 hours, from this moment. “This came from Hashem; it is wondrous in our eyes.” “Ze hayom asah Hashem, nagila v’nismacha bo.”[7]

This is this day, that will continue until motzae Yom Kippur, dances that don’t stop for a second.

==

And it’s forbidden to quarrel with anyone who’s offending you, and also don’t answer back, and also, don’t ‘explain’.

You don’t need to ‘explain’ anything, everything should just be from himself. Today… Like the night, the day already arrived, the day has risen, it’s already dawn, we see the day, we see the light.

And the light pushes away all of the darkness.

And don’t stand on the benches to see the Rav.

And don’t yell out HaRav! HaRav! And don’t mention any requests – the Rebbe sees everyone, all the requests should go straight to the Rebbe [Rebbe Nachman]. You don’t need to remind the Rav about any request, or about any name, not of a woman giving birth, and not someone who wants a child, and not of a bride, and not of a groom. Don’t mention any names!

Everything is by Rabbenu!

Rabbenu sees everything, and hears everything, and he knows everything. This only awakens judgements, when you bring [names and requests] to the Rav. Don’t exchange the Rav for the Rebbe! Only the Rebbe is the Rebbe, only Rabbenu, he’s doing all the miracles and wonder, that whoever was in Eretz Yisrael, no rocket fell.[8] The rockets fell in Jordan, in every place – except for Eretz Yisrael.

This was all Rabbenu’s doing.

And stand up, and don’t sing ‘or zaruya’.

Don’t sing emet and emuna, and no other song, either. And not odeh la E-l, and not Adon Olam, and not Yedid Nefesh – no song should be sung, to ‘enlarge’.[9]

Don’t scream out HaRav! HaRav! HaRav! HaRav! HaRav sees everyone, we are coming to the Rebbe, not to the Rav. We need to always now that we are coming to the Rebbe, and that the Rebbe sees everyone.

==

And everyone should pray in the Kloiz, with dread and awe.

Look in the siddur, pay attention to the shaliach tzibbur, to the congregation. Whoever can’t pray, so then he should listen to everyone else, he should pray in his heart, with everyone. And don’t yell at the Rav, and don’t stand on chairs in order to see the Rav, and pray like everyone else.

==

It’s forbidden [to stand out].

The Shunamite Woman said, I don’t want to separate myself, don’t mention me.

So it’s written there [in the Zohar], in Parshat Beshalach, that if a person stands out on Rosh Hashana, then he awakens judgements upon himself. He already can’t sweeten any harsh judgements.

“B’toch ami anochi yoshevet”.[10]

So, it’s forbidden to mention any names to the Rav.

==

And no woman should come [to Uman for Rosh Hashana].

And the women who already arrived, should return home for Rosh Hashana. Because they causing 50,000 men to stumble…[creating] billions of demons and evil spirits.

And even if Sarah Imenu came here, it would be forbidden to see her, and it would be forbidden for her to pray in the Tziyun [on Rosh Hashana], in the kibbutz. She is obligated to return to Jerusalem – also Sarah, also Rivka, also Rachel, also Leah.

Because until techiat hametim, the body is surrounded by billions of demons, until the revival of the dead, when we will have totally new bodies, like Adam HaRishon before the sin.

So no woman should remain, every one should go home.

Translated from Rasisei Tal #84.

FOOTNOTES:

[1] Tehillim 114: 4. This psalm is talking about what happened when the Jews left Egypt.

[2] Referring to the Amorites, who were crushed to death in the mountains when they moved against each other.

[3] Parshat Chukat, Numbers 21: 14-15: “From there they journeyed and encamped on the other side of the Arnon – which is in the wilderness – that juts out from the border of the Amorite; for Arnon is the border of Moab, between Moab and the Amorite. Therefore it is said in the book of the Wars of Hashem: The gift of Reeds and the rivers of Arnon; the waterfall of the rivers when it veered to dwell at Ar.”

[4] From the High Holy Day additions to the Amidah.

[5] Psalm 118:21. “I thank You, for You have answered me and [You have] become for me a salvation.”

[6] Psalm 118:23. “This came from Hashem; it is wondrous in our eyes.”

[7] Psalm 118:24. “ This is the day that Hashem made, we will rejoice and be glad in it.

[8] It’s hard to know what the Rav actually means here, although certainly, the casualties from the ‘rockets’ were relatively very small.

[9] I.e. Shuvu Banim shouldn’t sing any of the songs they customarily sing before prayers with the Rav, in order to show respect for the Rav.

[10] 2 Kings 4:13. “And she said, ‘I dwell among my own people.’”

I had a few days off, up North.

Honestly, I could have a few weeks off at the moment, and it probably still wouldn’t be enough.

But slowly, slowly, I am feeling like the strength is coming back, enough to keep going at least with the day to day.

So, slow posting here on the blog at the moment, except, I made a commitment to myself to share at least one thing from the Rav, and one thing from Rebbe Nachman every single week, and I realised we got to Friday, and I didn’t do that yet.

So, let’s start with the ‘one thing’ from Rabbenu, first.

The following comes from a collection of Breslov writings called Kuntres haHosafot, gathered together by R Avraham Chazan, and stuck up on Wikisource in Hebrew by a Na-Nach guy, HERE.

The translations to English are automatic AI, but pretty good.

And here is the one that took my eye, today:

23 Rabbeinu z”l said that Mashiach will have to do more work with the Chassidic imposters than…

Rabbeinu z”l said that Mashiach will have to do more work with the Chassidic mefursamim shel sheker/ imposters, than the work he’ll have with the fraye/”liberated” [secularist] and apostate Jews. Because the latter want to understand only with wisdom, and Mashiach will be superbly wise and will show them by wisdom that he is right, so they’ll acknowledge him.

But those Chassidic fakers who believe in emunoth cozeviyyot/false faiths, when Mashiach shows to their eyes how it is, they’ll reply, “I believe” (Ikh glayb). Even though he shows to his eyes what the truth is, he still believes (in the sheker) even though he understands intellectually.

He said it in these words, (Az Mashiach vet hobn mer arbayt mit di falshe chasidim vi mit di frayen, varn di fraye vet er vizin mit chokhma veln zey mode zayn. aber di falshe chasidim vifil er vet oys vizin der emet veln zey zagn “Ikh glayb,” klomar chotchye ikh farshtay, nit azoi glayb ikh fart). H”Y guard us from this! Amen ken yehi ratzon.

There is really only one source of the ‘fine, Hungarian wine’.

Appearances notwithstanding.

Something else, last week my husband pointed out the verse in Tehillim that talks about ‘mountains melting like wax’.

It’s in Kabbalat Shabbat, Tehillim 97, which goes like this:

Hashem has reigned, let the world rejoice. Let the numerous islands be glad. Cloud and dense darkness surround Him, righteousness and justice are the foundation of His throne.

Fire goes before Him, and consumes everything around His enemies. His lightning bolts lit up the world, the inhabitants of the earth saw, and trembled.

Mountains melted like wax before Hashem, the Lord of all the earth.

The heavens did declare His righteousness, and all the peoples did see His glory.

All those who worship idols, and pride themselves with worthless gods, will be humiliated…

…O lovers of Hashem, despise evil!

He guards the lives of his chassidim [look it up, that’s what it says] and rescues them from the hand of the wicked.

Or tzaruya laTzaddik, v’le’yishrei lev simcha…

==

In case you didn’t know already, or tzaruya is the song they sing by the Rav before davening, sometimes for 40 mins…

==

The mountains are melting in Nepal and Tibet, home of the Boodha; apparently, the mountains are also now starting to ‘melt’ in the Alps too, just not yet on the same scale, and also in Spain.

We live in interesting times…

The Rav put out a recording from Uman this week, where he warned that people need to focus on being by Rebbe Nachman whilst in Uman, and no-one else – including the Rav himself.

We are there to crown Hashem King of the world on Rosh Hashana.

The Rav also warned that Uman Rosh Hashana is no place for women, and if any women went, they should turn around and come home by Rosh Hashana.

==

It’s very interesting, that the one year when I went to Uman for Rosh Hashana, that three week odyssey when I spent a day with my kids, alone, under armed guard in a Kiev airport, ahead of the first Covid Rosh Hashana – that was the most horrible Rosh Hashana I ever, ever had.

I felt like it took me three years to recover, spiritually, and I really wondered, if I should have actually gone there, as a woman, for Rosh Hashana, even with the best of intentions.

So, each person will do as they see fit, but let’s just say I have absolutely no plans to ever go back to Uman for Rosh Hashana, ever.

Shabbat shalom, my sweet readers – and friends.

Each time I debate whether I should just close the blog down permanently, I remember how many good, amazing, sincere Jews I have met, including in person, from the blog.

And that keeps me going.
